The Brain Project 2019
The Yogen Früz Brain Project is a large-scale, outdoor exhibit that brings brain health, art and imagination to the streets of Toronto. In its inaugural year, The Yogen Früz Brain Project launched across Toronto and started a public conversation about brain health and brought awareness to diseases like Alzheimer’s.

The artist suffers from generalized anxiety and ADD. Composing exact shapes in traditional mediums is the only time she feels she’s not ruminating and it forces her to focus strictly on the task at hand. This piece compares the meditative practice Shayla uses to calm her mind while contrastingly representing the slow fade into the complicated mind of an Alzheimer’s patient. Dually, it parallels the proven benefits of art therapy for the artist and for those with Alzheimer’s and dementia.
